Launch of “Christ in the Rubble” by Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac in a Profound Event in Bethlehem Bible College
Bethlehem—On Saturday evening, a significant event was held at Bethlehem Bible College to launch Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac’s “Christ in the Rubble.” Distinguished religious and academic figures and a broad audience deeply invested in both theological and national matters attended the event.
The event commenced with an opening speech by Rev. Dr. Jack Sara, President of the College, who underscored the importance of the book as a powerful Palestinian Christian voice, one that fuses spiritual testimony with a poignant human account of the unfolding events in Gaza.
Among the participants were Archbishop Atallah Hanna, the Archbishop of Sebastia of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, who emphasized the critical role of the Palestinian Christian voice in delivering a message of ethics and humanity to the world. Also present was Archbishop Sani Azar, Head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, who praised Rev. Isaac’s remarkable role in manifesting true faith amidst suffering, providing a living testimony to the challenges faced by the Palestinian people.
Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac spoke about the circumstances and motivations behind the writing of the book, stating: “This book was written during an exceptionally difficult period, born from deep emotions of anger and pain. It serves as a documentation of the events in Palestine from a Palestinian Christian perspective. It bears witness to the genocide in Gaza through the lens of faith, and acts as a message from the church that has consistently called for the cessation of this brutal war.”
He further highlighted that this work is particularly a documentation of the church’s service over recent months, as one of the many Palestinian Christian voices urging an end to the war in Gaza.
The event also featured a dialogue between Rev. Isaac and Dr. Yusuf Khoury, the Academic Dean, who explored the book’s content, as well as the theological, political, and intellectual backgrounds that contributed to its creation.
The evening concluded with the signing and sale of the book, where many attendees were eager to obtain signed copies from Rev. Dr. Isaac, who expressed his profound gratitude to all those who supported and helped bring this work to fruition.
In the closing moments of the event, one of the most impactful quotes from the book was shared, summarizing its profound message:
“It was not the absence of destruction that revealed Christ’s presence—it was the grace found in its midst.”
This poignant statement encapsulates the core message of the book, emphasizing that true faith does not shy away from pain but witnesses the divine presence that emerges amidst suffering, transforming destruction into a living testimony of hope.
