The Ancient Art of Iconography: Special Lecture For The Tour Guide Students

At Bethlehem Bible College we believe in the richness of joining efforts and partnering with others in the Holy Land. This past Wednesday the students of our Tour Guide Department had a special lecture given by Ian Knowles, Director of Bethlehem Icon Centre. The dynamic lecture focused on the history of Iconography which came to birth in the Holy Land over 1,500 years ago. Additionally, the students learnt about the meaning and use of iconography in Christian liturgy, its meaning as a mystical art and its importance in Palestinian ancient culture.

Bethlehem Icon Centre and its Icon School are dedicated to the renewal of iconography as a living part of the spiritual landscape of the Holy Land. It also seeks to renew the dwindling Christian population by restoring an essential element of their ancient culture, and is the only project of its kind in the Middle East. To learn more about the centre visit www.bethlehemiconcentre.org.
