Come on a journey with us and learn about Bethlehem — from the arrival of the Holy Family to the flight into Egypt — all from a local Palestinian perspective.

What You Will Learn

  • The journey of the Holy Family to Bethlehem in geography and tradition: Why Bethlehem?

  • The connection of Bethlehem between the Old and New Testaments.

  • The Christmas story through local eyes: the birth narratives in Luke and Matthew.

  • How the memory of Jesus and the Holy Family is preserved in Bethlehem today.

  • The main sites of Jesus in Bethlehem: Church of the Nativity, Star Street, Milk Grotto, and more.

  • The visitors of Jesus — the Shepherds and the Magi.

  • Tracing the Flight into Egypt and its related traditions.

  • Herod the Great and his legacy (Herodium Palace).

  • The roots of monasticism in the Judean Desert: St. Theodosius and Mar Saba monasteries.
